This page is set up in the loving memory of Andy. Andy was diagnosed with catastrophic anti-phospholipid syndrome on 16/10/2019. Up until this time we had no awareness of such disorders and the complications associated with this. After discussions with haematology consultant Dr Jalihal, it was proposed for Andy to be put forward for the plasmapheresis treatment. However, it was then brought to our attention there are only 8 centres in the Uk that offer this treatment. Baring in mind we was in Scunthorpe and was informed the nearest centre to us was Sheffield. With Andy critically ill, Dr Jalihal arranged for specialist nurses and their equipment to travel to Scunthorpe to give Andy the treatment. Family had many discussions with the specialist nurses surrounding this treatment, and was shocked to learn machines for such treatments where of limited amounts. It really shocked the family how such a miraculous potentially life saving machine was so limited. Sadly Andy passed away courageously and peacefully on Sunday 20th October 2019, surrounded by the love of his family. To honour Andy’s brave and courageous yet short battle with this illness, the family would like to fundraise to support the Anthony Nolan charity , in a bid to help contribute to further equipment , to give other people that chance.
